Urgent Prayer for LynneP, Please!!!

Please pray for LynneP. She was admitted to the hospital with a high fever, very low oxygen and blood pressure. She has a mass in her right lung that might be pneumonia or possibly cancer. I will pass along info as I get it, but please keep her in your prayers as she has not been well since her surgery.

Twitter for the room!

I've set up a twitter account for the room now so we can update folks occasionally about what's happening in the room. The "tweets" will show up on this page, just below the "enter" button. Nothing said in the room will show up on twitter, though you can ask us to post something there, if you'd like. I anticipate posting things like "We're praying in the room", "Chat about ____ is starting in 15 minutes", and "Posted about ___ to the blog".

If you're on twitter (or decide to join), you can follow the room there.

If you want to know more about twitter, you can watch this youtube video.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Personal health records

I just came across a post on ButYouDontLookSick.com about getting our personal health records organized. I imagine a lot of you have this kind of information already put together, but I thought it was worth pointing out for those of us who haven't and perhaps should.

Bible/Book Study ?

I'm seeing if there is interest in the room having a Bible Study based on the book "Hinds Feet On High Places." If you have any interest - add a comment below or talk to one of the room admins to vote yea or nay. Right now it is looking like Sunday afternoons might be the best time. You can comment on that too! Thanks!

Please pray for LynneP1969

Lynne is having a lot of difficulty with infection from her surgery. The bone itself might be infected. If so, they will have to do surgery to remove all the metal they put in her spine. Please pray for God to work in this situation and that she rest in God's gracious hand.

Prayer Request for LynneP1969

Please keep LynneP1969 in prayer. She is not in the room a lot but visits from time to time. She had major surgery and is having complications with infections and thrush and might need more surgery on an emergency basis. The bone in her spine is affected and it could impact the spinal cord and brain. Please pray for healing and for patience for her as she heals. Thanks!

Prayer Request for QuietSoul's Hubby

Hey all - I'd like to ask if you would lift my husband up in prayer. We found out yesterday that he has a congenital heart defect that is starting to cause potentially serious problems for him. He got a referral to a cardiologist at NorthWestern - a teaching hospital in Illinois. He is also waiting for information regarding the recent staging tests he had done to know if his cancer is still being held at bay.

My sleep study last night went well. I did have a reaction to the products used but it was quelled by benedryl- which I had to continue to take today. I am tired - but feeling ok. I was able to sleep long enough for them to gather enough information. I should find out the results at my next visit on Nov. 5.

Thanks for all you prayers, my dear friends.

Another update on Deni

I've updated most of the regulars in the room since I last talked to Deni; sorry to be so slow in posting the update here.

Deni (quietsoul51) was in the chat room last Saturday. She had gotten past the first crisis -- the blockage cleared after another test. However, things were not moving again since then and sheis becoming bloated again. She doesn't want to do anything except lay down; she doesn't even want to eat.

So many are of you are praying; thanks much. Keep praying!

Update on Deni; 3 pm chat canceled

Deni was in the chat room briefly on Saturday; she is still bloated and all. She said the doctor is wanting her to transfer somewhere like the Mayo Clinic. Please keep praying for her; haven't heard anything from her since Saturday.

I was sick all last night; ate something I shouldn't have. I'm sitting here just long enough to post this. I am getting better, but I'm going back to bed in a minute, so I'm canceling the 3 pm chat.

God bless!

Deni in the hospital

I just got an email from Deni (QuietSoul). She's been in the hospital for about a week with abdominal pain. She's having gastro tests; it might be her gallbladder. Her computer has died so she borrowed her hubby's and doesn't have email addresses, so if you were expecting email from her, that's why you haven't gotten it.

Please pray for her! Thanks.

Invisible Illness week - Wednesday schedule & links

Here is Wednesday's schedule. If for some reason, they don't work, go to Invisible Illness Conference page (reload the page if you have it open already) or to the Blog Talk Radio page.

I have fixed the links in the previous schedules I posted; very sorry about the confusion.

Wednesday's schedule (the links are all available now):

Prayer Chat Cancelled for a month - 6 weeks

As some of you know I will be going to Edmonton to visit with my oldest daughter and her family for a couple of weeks, I will be taking a greyhound there and back which is 12 hrs each way plus spending mammoth time with my 1 yr old grandson who has energy to burn plus LOL. I will need lots of time to recuperate afterwards, so depending on how I feel I will be coming back to the chat room sometime around the middle of the October give or take a week.

Please feel free to come into the chat room and if no one is around you can still type out your prayers as I do when no one shows up for prayer chat, then others can read them in the room history. I am sure God will bless you as He has blessed me. We need more prayer warriors for the chat room!

Also if you have any prayer requests you would like posted to the blog plz look for the link on the main page and Liz will post it as soon as she can.

I ask you all to pray for travel mercies for me and strength to keep up with my little one and keep an eye on the blog for prayer requests.

God bless and have a good and Godly day everyone

Invisible Illness week - Tuesday schedule & links

Today's schedule and links -- I plan to add links when they are posted.

Please pray the technical problems will be resolved.

I am hanging out in our chat room during most of these seminars.

Update, 6:20 pm Tuesday: It looks like the technical problems were resolved, but the links weren't all fixed, leaving some of us unable to find the programs; listening on the wrong page, etc. The 8:30 pm show last night and noon show today actually did take place but not where I expected to find them. Hopefully, the rest of the week will go more smoothly!

Monday, September 8, 2008

Invisible Illness week Monday schedule & links

After two seminars have gone by, I'm realizing folks are having a little trouble getting to the right page to listen to the seminars, so I will post the links for the individual seminars here to make it easier.

The programs are like talk radio programs -- you can listen and call in to ask questions; there is not simultaneous chat room though some of us are hanging out in our chat room during the sessions.

I'm including the two seminars from earlier today since you can hear the seminars by going to those pages, if you'd like to. Also, if you want to be included in the (probably incomplete) list of listeners on the web page, you can register on Blog Talk Radio and login before going to the seminar link.

The seminar pages do include more information about the seminars and speakers. See the Invisible Illness week site for information on the speakers and the schedule for the entire week (which does not include links to the individual shows).

Monday's shows:

I'll post more links later.

Tuesday afternoon update: The 6 pm seminar will be rescheduled, but the 8:30 pm was moved to a different place on Blog Talk Radio and I did not find it until now. Refreshed a lot of web pages, but missed the critical one, apparently... Guess that's what I get for leaving all these tabs open! I've left comments on the old pages to tell folks to go to the correct one now, so hopefully others won't have the same problem.

Invisible Illness Week September 8-14, 2008

National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week will be held this year September 8-14. The purpose of the week is to raise awareness of the needs of the chronically ill and the issues they deal with.

Rest Ministries is holding an online conference hosted on Blog Talk Radio, so you can listen to the seminars online and call in to participate, if you'd like to. The talks will be Monday - Friday at noon, 3 pm, 6 pm, and 8:30 pm eastern time. Some of the speakers and topics are:

For more information, visit Invisible Illness Conference. I have also added the Invisible Illness Blog to our blog roll.

Keep praying for RRDave

Dave had a CAT scan because his left side is swelling up 2-3 times in size sometimes, and they're trying to figure out why. The swelling affcts his breathing, too. Dave's hoping they can figure out what's wrong and fix it.

As an aside, my home internet connection is working again; I'm very glad to be back online and chatting again!

QuietSoul - Another prayer request

I had my surgery and it went well - if feeling like one has had a roto-rooter put through your kidney is going well *grin*, but I am in a lot of pain. I can't take any pain meds except tylenol and am taking valium for muscle spasms, but it's not quite enough. Please pray for endurance or relief from the pain. I appreciate the prayers, my friends. deni

Update of the QuietSoul & Liz offline

Deni (quietsoul51) did have to have surgery after all for her kidney stone; she was scheduled to have surgery yesterday at 2 pm. It sounded like the surgery itself shouldn't be bad, but her allergies could cause problems.

I haven't heard how she's doing, mostly because I've been offline since Sunday evening -- except I've come over to a local free hot spot for a couple hours to try to catch up a little. Verizon is scheduled to come fix things tomorrow; hoping to be back online tomorrow night.

Please keep praying for Deni.

Prayer request that kidney stone will move on out!

Hi all, I am having my first experience with a kidney stone and MIGHT need surgery (laser - or grab it and run, depending on it's size) and I would much rather take the option that the little lovely would pass through all by itself. I would ask that you pray that it passes and that I could find some relief from the pain and symptoms. If it doesn't work it's way out and I need the surgery, please pray that God handles all the details, and that things are successful. I really don't like going into the hospital with all my allergies, etc - so also that I would keep looking at God during the whole thing, if it is His will that I need the surgery.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Added a blog roll

I just added a blog roll to our page here; it's at the bottom right of this page. I've included some blogs I read on it as well as my own blog. I've also included a couple that are health news feeds -- one from WebMD and the other from the MayoClinic.

If you have any favorites/feedback, let me know. If you have a blog you'd like me to include, let me know.

Prayer request from Debbie in Canada

I got email from Debbie (debbiecan in chat room) about the propane recent explosion in Toronto:

We need prayer concerning the explosion in Toronto yesterday. It has hit home for us, in that the plant where Ken (hubby) works has been shut down due to broken glass and doors, lots of debris, and unsafe breathing air.
Also for others who have lost homes and business, guess loss of a paycheck for us, is nothing to lose of home and business.

Please pray for Ter2bug's husband

This is an email from ter2bug:

well, most of u know Joe's UTI came back & he's back in the hosp. i found out last night he's in full blown renal failure. now, if they put him on dialysis, he'll lose his hospice care (which pays 4 his drugs, briefs & healthcare). now, i'll go talk to the business manager 2 c how they handle that (since we r only allowed 2 keep $60 per month arrangements will have 2b made). my biggest concern is i've seen how hard dialysis is on ppl. at this point is it going 2b prolonging the suffering? or should i just let him go? my prayer is that he'll b cognitive enuf to talk 2 me about this. his fever was so high last night that he was hallucinating. ya'll, i really need prayers not only 4 joe, but if i need to make a decision, wat to do! he's only 68, i should have at least 10 good years w/ him! thx so much 4 ur prayers!

RRDave still struggling

Please keep praying for Dave. He is still on the strong chemo and has had to have his anti-seizure meds increased a couple times now. He is now on both cpap and oxygen and finding it harder and painful to breath. I think the doctors are doing their best, but I think Dave's lupus and the fact that he's lived so much longer with it than almost any other patient makes it hard for them to know what to do. Pray for them and for Dave as he interacts with them and as he deals with so many symptoms.

Thanks.

Pray for Ter2bug's husband

Ter's husband took a nap yesterday, woke up with tremors, and fell out of his scooter as a result. He is now has a kidney infection and is septic. He will be starting dialysis, and they are increasing his pain meds. Please pray for him and Ter as well; this is very difficult for both of them.

Thanks!

Azaleas from our neighborhood last April.

cooler an nutritious

I have a magic bullet but you can use a blender or food processor for this too. Also all measurements are approximate you can add or decrease as you want
1/2 a cup of FROZEN fruit (I like peach, banana, orange and pineapple together)
a couple of tablespoons of yogurt (optional if you have a dairy problem)
(I also like to add a couple of tsps of slimfast or protein powder to make it like the Orange Julius drinks)
A 1/2 - 1 cup of ice cold water
ice if you have it
blend this up and pour into a glass if you don't have a magic bullet
You can make this as thick or as thin as you want.
If you make it thick enough to need a spoon its almost like ice cream (in order to make it thicker add more FROZEN fruit).

beat the heat for a bit

Heres a trick for those of you needing to cool down for a while when its exceptionally hot out. If you can get your hands on a mint based lotion such as peppermint or a menthol based such as vicks and smear it on your lower back, shoulders, neck, feet and thighs (old t-shirt and socks come in handy if you use the vicks)then if your still a tad warm stand in front a fan and you'll be chattering in no time at all. I find alot of times if I just put some vicks on my feet and small of my back then my temps are dropping fast and I am actually on the cool side in no time at all, course no one wants to come around me for long but hey it beats passing out from heat stroke LOL.

Praise re: QuietSoul's husband

NOTHING was found on the rest of the tests on my husband's leg. Oncologist said it must have been an artifact of the isotope test. His back is much better and he's in physical therapy, feeling a lot less pain, and ready to return to work soon as doc give an OK. Thanks for all the prayers!

Pray for DJ her mother-in-law, and her family

DJ's mother-in-law is very sick right now. She had a heart attack last December and is not recovering well. She also has a bad hiatal hernia, so she can't eat much and is losing weight fast. She was in the hospital for iv feeding and is now home, but is still weak, won't get out of bed, and her heart is not strong enough for surgery. We prayed for her in the room last week, and she did get better over the weekend. The doctor says if she can eat 1200 calories a day, she should be alright. Pray that she can eat enough and that she can work thru the depression that has come with this illness. She does know the Lord and she is the heart of the family, so if/when she dies, she will leave a big hole.

Her daughter, (DJ's sister-in-law) is helping her, but she is diabetic and wants DJ to come help. The daughter needs to get back home but DJ's mother-in-law wants her daughter to stay.

At the same time, DJ's parents need her help as well and she is planning to travel to visit them in August. They were planning to move to assisted living, but the plans they had fell thru. Pray they can find an assisted living they can afford.

Also, DJ's son is having trouble at work. Please pray for him, too, and for DJ as she juggles all these needs and her own. Thanks!

Another Update on Quiet's hubby

He's home now, with strong pain meds and a tens unit. He has a bulging disc in L4-5 that is pinching a nerve. Prognosis is good with therapy and time. However, during an isotope bone scan they found something "suspicious" in his left leg. They ran some more tests but we don't have the results yet. The oncologist is concerned so we are hoping it is not another lesion.

Thanks for your prayers, deni AKA QuietSoul51

Monday, July 7, 2008

Update on Quiet's husband

He is on an IV pain pump and was up almost all of the night. This am he is vomiting and unable to eat. The doctor has said that sometimes his cancer treatment causes damage to the leg bone up in the hip socket, so that is what they are looking for first. He is depressed and in a LOT of pain. Please pray Steve senses God's nearness and that God will provide either relief or grant Steve endurance. (The cancer is multiple myeloma - blood cancer - not pancreatic.) Thanks for your prayer support.

Pray for Quietsoul51's husband

Quietsoul's husband went to the ER tonight with a lot of pain in his hip, thinking it might be broken. They did x-rays and found it was not broken, but they're keeping him overnight so they can do CT scans and MRIs tomorrow. He is still in a lot of pain; even morphine is not helping. As many of you know, he has pancreatic cancer, so there is a concern that he has a new lesion on his hip.

Pray that this is not cancer and for help for him during this time of great pain -- and for wisdom for the doctors in treating him. Thanks!

Happy 4th of July!

Hope you all have a happy and blessed day!

Keep praying for the US. We have been blessed in so many ways, especially to live in a country where we are free -- free to worship as we want and free to speak what we believe. Pray our freedoms are not eroded.

My chat will be canceled today.

God bless!

Prayer Request

I just recieved this email from my daughter about my 1 yr old grandson. Please pray for him and for the appt.
Just letting you know we just got back from the ER. Caidan has an umbilical hernia. I noticed it when he woke up crying and I changed his diaper and noticed his belly button was blown up like a balloon. We're going to his pediatrician tomorrow (lucky me just happened to have an appt. for his one year check up) and will get referred to a surgeon who will tell us what's going on.

She's back hehe

I will be starting my prayer chats again next week after ya'all had your holidays (Canada July 1st U.S. July 4th). I will be starting out small to get back in the groove so my chats will only be a half hour long unless someone gets a holy roller going LOL. So mark your calendars for every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 pm Eastern starting July 8th for half an hour of prayer , praise and worship. Be there or be square ya hear. I have missed you all this past couple of months but with God's help I will be here for a while longer.

Back online!

The Apple Store got my computer fixed yesterday, and I'm very glad to be back online!

Offline for a couple days - Friday chat cancelled

I'll be offline for a couple days while my computer is being repaired... I will still be able to receive and send email, so I won't be completely dicsonnected, but I won't be able to go in the chat room.

This means I'll miss my chat Friday.

I'll miss you all! God bless!

Debbie's mom to have back surgery

I chatted with Debbie (DebbieCan) earlier today. She was sick for a couple weeks and is better now -- enough she made it to the chat room, but she's not well yet. Keep praying for her.

Now, however, her mom needs to go in for back surgery. They will cut a small opening in her back and clean out all loose bone around the nerves. Then they will do a fusion of the spine or disk that is falling apart.

Her mom went for pre-op testing yesterday and will be going for the surgery Monday at noon. Please pray; this is very stressful for Debbie's mom and dad -- and for Debbie.

Prayer Request!

We (my husband and I) found out his plant might be moving from Indiana to North Carolina. We do not know if they will offer him his job there, or if we can handle the move as we are in the middle of Steve's cancer treatment. Please pray that we can completely trust the Lord at this time and follow his leading. Pray that the details will all work out as they should. Thanks! QuietSoul51 aka deni

Update from QuietSoul & her mom

I just chatted with Deni (QuietSoul) and she said her mom's arm is better and her mom's cardio says her heart is good. However, both Deni and her mom are feeling sick. Her mom is very tired and doesn't feel like going upstairs. Deni seems to have caught a virus and so isn't feeling well either.

Deni had good news, too! She passed the very tricky exam she took earlier this month.

Keep praying, too! Thanks.

Pray for Quietsoul51's mom

Quietsoul's mom got a pacemaker this past week in their local hospital and is now home. However, it looks like her IV has gotten infected. She is now on antibiotics and antibiotic ointment, and is putting heat on it every 8 hours. If her temperature spikes, she will need to go to the ER again. Please pray that it is not MRSA, a bacteria resistant to antibiotics, and that she recovers.

Saturday, June 14, 2008

Update on RRDave

Dave dropped by the chat room a little while ago. He's hanging in there and and has not had any more seizures (praise God!) after the dose was increased for one of his meds.

Generally, his meds are helping but they are also causing him to be depressed, and his new anti-depressant med is not helping or not helping enough. He's also in more pain in his spinal cord because he's gained weight.

Please pray! Thanks.

Friday, June 13, 2008

Thanks for praying!

My father-in-law is back in his room -- had no broken bones and apparently his neck really is stable. His pain is a lot less, and we're arranging to have an aid to stay with him for a few days until he's recovered and in less pain. By the time I left him, he was moving around with less pain and doing better than I expected after he had so much pain moving at all in the ER earlier.

Thanks again!

I'm very tired -- I'm sure you all that know me are not surprised to hear that! But I'm hanging in ok, praising God that things turned out as well as they did.

In ER with father-in-law

I'm in the ER again with my fil who fell again last night and is having bad neck and back pain. He has a fracture in his c7 vertebrate but no paralysis. He was in a lot of pain but is sleeping now, thankfully. It's hard because he's 81; I'm not sure what they can or will do. Please pray! Thanks.

I will not be doing my chat this afternoon... I'll probably be here or at another ER...

NIH launches Undiagnosed Diseases Program

The National Institutes for Health (NIH) Office of Rare Diseases (ORD) launched last month the "Undiagnosed Diseases Program". The goals (from their website) are:

  • To provide answers to patients with mysterious conditions that have long eluded diagnosis
  • To advance medical knowledge about rare and common diseases
To get into the program, you need a doctor referral and they are not able to take very many from what they said, but I think it could be a life saver for some folks. Hopefully, they'll be able to learn more about these strange diseases some of us get...

For more information, see their site.

40 Day Prayer Devotional

Day 38 - May 30

Standing for God’s Standards

Scripture:
“When he (the Holy Spirit) comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.” John 16: 8-11

Prayer Points:
• Pray for the Lord to convict all who live in Canada of his righteous standards for living.
• Pray that the Holy Spirit will awaken people to the reality of God’s presence in the world and acknowledge Jesus the Son.
• Pray that the Holy Spirit will awaken people’s conscience to God’s moral standards for society.

Jacqueline Dugas
Director of Ministries
Every Home for Christ International/Canada

Day 39 - May 31

Make Disciples

Scripture:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the mane of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20 NASB

Prayer Points:
• Pray that the Church will get back to the simple command of Jesus for His Church and its members: Make Disciples.

• Pray that the Church will make disciples simply by teaching their people to observe all that Jesus commanded them.

• As we pray, let us thank Jesus for His promise as we make disciples teaching them to observe all that Jesus commanded them that He has promised to be with us always, even to the end of the age.

Dr. Tom Hart
National Director
Precept Ministries Canada

Day 40 - June 1

Scripture:
Call to me, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3

Prayer Points:
Pray these powerful scriptures.....
• God is not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
• God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
• I will give you the nations as your inheritance and the ends of the earth as your possession. Psalm 2:8

Update on MomOf6

Mom just contacted me to say the cyst on her right ovary is gone, but the one on the right ovary is still there and is acting like endometriosis. The doctor is waiting six weeks to see if it goes away on its own; if it doesn't, they will do surgery to remove it.

Her pain is bad right now from her exam but is not so bad day to day.

Keep praying! Thanks.

Pray for Apple's cousin, Loretta

Apple's cousin, Loretta, is about 4 months pregnant and found out today that she's expecting twins -- and that the twins are joined at the chest. Pray for a good outcome for Loretta & the babies.

40 Day Prayer Devotional

Day 36 - May 28

Dominion from Sea to Sea

Scripture:
He shall have dominion from sea to sea. Psalm 72:8

Prayer Points:
• Pray that Canada, a gathering place for nations, will honour God and seek to live righteously
• Pray that we will experience a national revival and that the church will respond to the urgency of the times and pray.
• Pray that we will be a nation that has a heart for evangelism and reaching our neighbours and communities for Christ.

Margaret Gibb
President
Women Alive

Day 37 - May 29

Spilling Out The Love of Jesus

Scripture: "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." John 7:37-38

God can only do thru us, what he has first done in us. The outflow of our lives is in direct proportion to our intake. Effective evangelism is not so much a product of our techniques and programs as it is an overflow of a rich, living and full relationship with Jesus Christ.

Prayer Point:
• Pray that the church in Canada will know, enjoy and contagiously spill out the presence and love of Jesus Christ to those around us.

Mom had an ultrasound done Wednesday, and her doctor called yesterday to say she has a 3 inch cyst on her left ovary and a 5 inch cyst on her right. She will probably need surgery to have the cysts and maybe her ovaries removed. She will be going to see a gynecologist on Tuesday.

She's in a lot of pain and requesting prayer.

Praying for you to ease the pain and wisdom for you and the doctors.
God bless!

Accept one another

This is the scripture I'm thinking about today:

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

- Romans 15:5-7

Because we are ill, we sometimes behave in ways that are outside the norm. We often try to look and act normally so healthy people don't judge us. At other times, emotions of worry, fear, and even anger can become overwhelming. When we come to the chat room, sometimes we want to vent about things.

So how do we respond when someone is upset or just seems odd? I've found that acceptance and listening is the best way to help. Nearly everyone says at least one odd thing when they're new to the room -- it takes time for newbies to get used to how chat rooms work in general and ours, in particular. So, don't reject someone too quickly -- as the verse above says, God has accepted us and shown us great love and grace, and has given us His peace. So, we need to extend that acceptance and love to others.

When I looked up that Scripture, I was mainly thinking about that acceptance, but I found more (God's like that!). The verse describes God as One who gives us endurance and encouragement in our trials -- another reason to extend that to one another. He can also give us a "spirit of unity" so we can glorify Him with one heart and mind. I pray that He does give us that.

Things have been running smoothly in the room, but I know from experience there are occasions when you might need help from an admin. Perhaps someone is in the room who needs a lot of help and you're not sure what to say or do, or perhaps there is some other problem. To reach an admin, send the wolf sound to the room; one is usually available.

Day 34 - May 26

Dependence on Christ

Scripture: "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”. John 15:4-5

Thought: The key to all valid activity is not its effect but its source. If it derives from what we do for Jesus, rather than from what He does through us, it will come to nothing. This is the only way we ‘bear fruit’, whether “the fruit of the spirit” (Gal 5:22), i.e. character, or the fruit of His life being reproduced in others, i.e. evangelism.

Prayer Point:
• Pray that we will live in such dependence upon the indwelling presence of Jesus Christ that His life in us will bear inevitable fruit in drawing others to Himself.

Sharing the Gospel Even When It Hurts

Scripture:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Prayer Points:
• Pray that true believers will not shrink back from sharing the gospel even though talking about sin causes offence.
• Pray the church will take up its call to show our love for Christ in a way that would cause others to be jealous of what we have in Christ
• Pray that the church will be established by the preaching of God’s word with power love and full conviction.

Look and Follow

Scripture:
When he (John) saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. John 1:36-37

Thought: May we, as a nation, SEE Jesus, not just passing by, but here dwelling among us. May the way we live and love point Him out and say, "Look, the Lamb of God!"

Prayer Points:
• As we proclaim His Goodness boldly we pray that many will hear and will understand that Jesus has come for their salvation.
• Pray that we may follow Jesus and lead many to His love.

Day 31 - May 23

Pray, Go, Share!

In John 4, Jesus is talking to His disciples. In Matthew 9, He is telling His disciples that even though it was December; the harvest was ripe, it was ready for picking – right now. You can’t wait four months – PRAY, GO AND SHARE

Scripture:
• “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Matthew 9:35-38

Prayer Points:
• Ask that God’s people would first PRAY that He would prepare hearts for the seed of His Word.
• Pray for God to raise up workers for the harvest field

Scripture:
• "My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying 'One sows and another reaps' is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labour." John 4:34-38

Prayer Points:
• Pray that God’s people would see that where they live and work is where God has placed them and there are people ripe for harvest.

Day 32 - May 24

The Gospel According To…My Life

Scripture:
“For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:15-19

Prayer Points:
• Pray that God would release a Spirit of wisdom and revelation to His church and to the world, that we might know Him better. Pray that the eyes of people’s hearts would be open to see Jesus.
• Pray that God’s people would know the hope of their calling, as ministers of reconciliation and as “living epistles”.
• Pray that the church of Canada would walk in His incomparably great power, being strengthened in our inner man by His Spirit, pursuing the lost with His passion.

The Road to Home

Scripture:
“A river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowed from the throne of God and of the Lamb and flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life…the leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations” Rev 22:1,2 NLT

To effectively draw others to join us on this “Highway to Heaven” (Isa 35:8-10), we must dance, worship, and play together as God’s children in the River so that the water of life within is pure and joyful (John 4:7-14) causing the thirsty to come and drink freely (Rev 21:6). The more we soak in God’s Presence and become more intimate with our Bridegroom-King, the more of Christ’s nature we have to pour out onto others turning sorrow to joy, despair to hope, stress to peace, sickness to health.

Prayer Points:
• Pray for the Nations’ Gatekeepers, the First Peoples ( www.actsnewsnetwork.com)
• Pray for the Mi’kmaq to experience revival so that they may open the Eastern gates for the Glory of God to come in like a tidal wave

Day 30 - May 22

Overtures of Love

Scripture:
“I ask the glorious Father and God of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you his Spirit. The Spirit will make you wise and let you understand what it means to know God. My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all of God's people.” Eph. 1:17-18

Prayer Points:
Dare we, as God’s people, pray for our neighbours:
• that He would pour out His Holy Spirit upon them.
• that He would flood their hearts with revelation and understanding.
• that with great gratitude they would respond to His overtures of Love.

Prayer Points:
• Pray for the church of Jesus Christ to have a revelation of the love of God and be true expressions of that love to a sick and dying world.
• Pray that the church of Jesus Christ would have the heart and compassion of God for those that do not know Him and begin to call them into His kingdom.

Windows of Opportunity

Scripture:
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

Prayer Points:
• Pray that we the Church, being mindful to the Lordship of Christ in our lives, would present Him well as we live out our lives in a world desperate for an answer.

• Pray that we the Church, would be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to pause, take time and listen to those God places around us to comfort, pray, and share about Jesus during those divine windows of opportunity which the Lord ordains for those in need of a Saviour.

Calming the storm

I found a great quote (or what I think is a great quote) that I'm finding really applies to how I see God working in my life through my illnesses.

Sometimes God calms the storm ... Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms the child.

Have a great day today trusting that God can either calm the storms in your life - or bring you to a place of calmness inside of the storm.

Living and Holy Sacrifice

Scripture:
"I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will accept" (Romans 12:1 NLT)

Prayer Points:
• Pray that the "Fear of the Lord" which is the beginning of wisdom will be implanted deeply into the hearts of believers so that they can live and be as God has intended.
• Pray for surrender to the Father as believers come to recognize that a transformation in our nation begins with transformations in our own hearts.

If They Do Not Hear…

Scripture:
"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" (Romans 10: 14)

Prayer Points:
• Pray that the Holy Spirit would stir up creative and powerfully anointed voices that would 'preach' the Gospel through all media - via print, radio, TV, Internet; and through the arts, dance, drama, and music.

• Pray that the Holy Spirit would open blind eyes and deaf ears to see and hear who Jesus is; that hardened hearts would be softened and responsive to the Gospel message of salvation.

• Pray that a passion for the lost will arise in the Canadian Church, compelling believers to pray fervently for revival to sweep our nation.

The Word Shall Not Return Void

Scripture: “…So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 54:11 (Amp.)
Prayer Points:
• Pray that we as believers would have a fresh revelation of the power of God’s word as it is released from our mouths in prayer.
• Pray for us to be led by the Spirit of God in our witnessing, having our ears attuned to Him, not hesitation in speaking the word boldly, from hearts filled with His compassion and love.
• Pray that as His word is released both in prayer and in witnessing, that we will see its life-transforming power at work in the lives of those across our nation who do not yet know Him.

That the World May Know

Scripture: [Jesus, praying to His Father, said] “The glory that You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one. I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them, even as You have loved Me…” John 17:22-23 (NASB)

Prayer Points:
• Pray for a commitment to embrace the effect of Jesus’ prayer, that we become so one with Christ and God that the outflow is Spirit-directed, prayer-saturated, love-embracing unity among believers that astonishes both the believers and the world.

• Pray that our churches pray this reality into place and learn to expect this in their decision-making, their caring, and their outreach ministries.

• Pray that seekers on the edge of the friend-networks of those churches see the unity, the power of God’s grace at work among us, and so come to faith in Christ.

• Pray that the churches filled with this unity/love learn how to care for the new believers.

in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the
unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the
glory of Christ . . .” II Cor. 4: 3 & 4 (NAS)

The Promise of Prisoners Set Free

Scripture:
“This is what the LORD says: I will answer your prayers because I have set a time when I will help by coming to save you. I have chosen you to take my promise of hope to other nations. You will rebuild the country from its ruins, then people will come and settle there. You will set prisoners free from dark dungeons to see the light of day. On their way home, they will find plenty to eat, even on barren hills.” Isaiah 49:8,9

Prayer Points:
• Declare the truth of His promises ‘to answer your prayers’ that are prayed for the peoples of the world and for your life situations
• Agree with the plans that the Lord has for you to do in world evangelization and renew the calling to go to the nations and to rebuild the ruins wherever they may be found.
• Rejoice in the ministry to set the prisoner free. Pray it into being in your life and walk out this adventure beginning today.

Prayer with Expectancy for Evangelism

Scripture:
Luke 11: 9-10 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Thought: Could it be that we do not have because we do not ask and expect (John 16:24)? Jesus invites us to pray with expectancy. Imagine what will happen in Canada when we all pray with this kind of faith!

Prayer Points:
• Ask: Who do you want to see come to Christ?
• Seek: What do you want to believe can happen to the spiritual climate in Canada?
• Knock: What doors of opportunity do you want to see opened for your church’s effectiveness in evangelism?

Open Doors

Scripture:
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.” Colossians 4:2-5

Prayer Points:
• Pray for grace that God's people will earnestly, diligently and continually DEVOTE themselves to God, prayer and obedience.
• Pray we unite together in love in Holy Spirit’s power to bring God's purposes into every segment and influence - with boldness.
• Pray for wide open doors and receiving the power of the Gospel - reaping a mighty worldwide harvest.

Open Boldness and Blessing

Scripture:

Acts 4:24-31

Prayer Points:

Let us lift our voices together to a sovereign God:

• That we will speak the Word with all boldness
• That the mighty Hand of God to be upon us
• For great grace and great power to be on the evangelists
• Our cities shaken by the effect of the Gospel
• Jesus glorified from coast to coast to coast!

RRDave on stronger chemo

Dave was in the chat room last night. He's on the new stronger chemo and having a rough time with it. It's very strong chemo to suppress his immune system which should suppress the lupus. But he's in bad shape, and he doesn't think he'll make it back to the chat room again.

Please pray for him.

Dave's favorite scripture, Psalm 1:

1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Purpose: Seek and Save the Lost

Scripture: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” Matthew 18:11

Thought: Considering that God paid the highest price possible by sacrificing His son, evangelism and outreach is most important to Him.

Prayer Points:
• Let us pray that it will be that important to us. Jesus came primarily for that high purpose - “to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Matthew 18:11)

• Let us pray for motivation, creativity and perseverance that we will use every available method at every available time to reach every available person in every available place. May everything we do and everything we are be for that purpose.

• “White for harvest” : Pray that the Holy Spirit would impart a deep sense of urgency into the hearts of all believers to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
• “Lift up your eyes” : Pray that the Church in Canada would not be overwhelmed by business but that we would lift up our eyes and see the harvest right before us.
• “Do not say” : Pray that a great spirit of FAITH would be imparted to believers all over Canada that not only is the harvest NOW but that people are desperately looking for answers today.
• Pray that the Lord would pierce our hearts once again for His heart for the lost.
• Pray that as Christians in this nation we would have a revelation not only of the reality of heaven but also of the reality of hell.

Romans 12 in the Message Bible

Rom 12:1 So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life--your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life--and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.
Rom 12:2 Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Rom 12:3 I'm speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it's important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.
Rom 12:4 In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around.
Rom 12:5 The body we're talking about is Christ's body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn't amount to much, would we? So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ's body,
Rom 12:6 let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren't. If you preach, just preach God's Message, nothing else;
Rom 12:7 if you help, just help, don't take over; if you teach, stick to your teaching;
Rom 12:8 if you give encouraging guidance, be careful that you don't get bossy; if you're put in charge, don't manipulate; if you're called to give aid to people in distress, keep your eyes open and be quick to respond; if you work with the disadvantaged, don't let yourself get irritated with them or depressed by them. Keep a smile on your face.
Rom 12:9 Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good.
Rom 12:10 Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.
Rom 12:11 Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master,
Rom 12:12 cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder.
Rom 12:13 Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.
Rom 12:14 Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath.
Rom 12:15 Laugh with your happy friends when they're happy; share tears when they're down.
Rom 12:16 Get along with each other; don't be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don't be the great somebody.
Rom 12:17 Don't hit back; discover beauty in everyone.
Rom 12:18 If you've got it in you, get along with everybody.
Rom 12:19 Don't insist on getting even; that's not for you to do. "I'll do the judging," says God. "I'll take care of it."
Rom 12:20 Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he's thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness.
Rom 12:21 Don't let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.

Prayer Points:

• Pray that the leaders of Canadian churches and ministries would learn to work with each other…. like Paul and his friends

Day 10 - May 2

Walking the Word

Scripture:
“And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:10-14)

Prayer Points:
• Pray that Canadians Christians will have a deeper passion to be engaged in the word of God and prayer.

• Pray that Canadian Christians will live their lives according to Biblical principles and by so doing be a consistent witness to others of the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

40 Day Prayer Devotional

Day 7 - April 29

Teach Us to Love

Scripture: "Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged." 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Prayer Points:
• Lord, teach us to love you the way you love us.

• Lord, teach us to love others the way we love ourselves.

• Lord, teach us to love the lost so that in us they will see Jesus.

• Lord, use us to grow the Body of Christ to be strong and united in a way that would bring honour and glory to your name.

Day 8 - April 30

Light of the World

Scripture: “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

Prayer Points:
• Ask the Lord to examine your walk by shining His ‘light’ on your life
and to reveal anything that hinders your witness for Him in the marketplace.
• Seek to encourage others to follow Jesus, not at a distance, but intimately and passionately as one who abides in Christ while ‘working’ in the world.

Chat canceled today - please pray

I need to cancel my 3 pm chat today because my father-in-law needs our help. He's walking better, using his walker, but he's trying to go home. He actually walked out the front door and started walking. I'm headed over there, and we need to figure out what to do for him. We'll probably get an aid to stay with him at least part of the time, but we need to sort out the details.

Thanks!

40 Day Prayer Devotional

Day 5 - April 27

Reconciling Others to Him

Scripture:
2 Corinthians 5:15, 17-18 (NLT)

15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.

Prayer Points:
• Ask God to search your heart and see if you are living in anyway for yourself – be
honest - repent, surrender, forsake
• Commit to the Lord that in the next 1 – 3 months you will intentionally give
yourself to reconciling one person to him – expect the opportunity (contact us for
helpful tools) and act on it
• Pray regularly for the individual people you know in the domains (fields of influence) of education, business, sport, art’s/media/entertainment, government, family, church, military to discover new life in Christ and experience the reality that their old life is gone. Pray they will be inspired as well to the task of reconciling others to Him.

Day 6 - April 28

Be Prepared

Scripture:
1 Peter 3:15 "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect"

Prayer Points:

• Pray that Canadian Christians will be prepared in season and out of season to share the Good News of Jesus to those who ask.

• Pray that more Canadians will begin asking.

• Pray that we will be clear about the reason for hope.

• Pray that we will show increased gentleness and respect as we live our lives in an attractive Christ-like way.

40 Day Prayer Devotional

Day 3 - April 25

Why God Blesses

Scripture:

Psalm 67
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us,
2 that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
3 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.
6 Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us.
7 God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

In this Psalm David prays for God’s blessing but not for himself or even for the nation of Israel, his prayer is an affirmation of God’s covenant with His people made with Abraham in Genesis 12:1-2:
1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.
2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

There are two things of particular note in these texts.

First it is helpful to note that the bottom line in the prayer of David, as in the covenant, is not the people of God but the world. David does not pray for God’s blessing exclusively for Israel but for all nations; the people of God simply act as agents of God in blessing others.

Therefore the mission of the church is not to receive blessing for itself but to receive blessing in order to bless others. The moment a church ceases to be a blessing to others is the moment the flow of God’s blessing ceases for the church. As such God’s people who desire His blessing are driven by a vision to win the world; being to the world what God is to us. How we bless others is a reflection of God’s image in us and a sign of our true commitment to Christ.

Second, God by virtue of His nature does everything with excellence and as such His blessing is His best for us. Therefore we who are his representatives also live and bless others by that same standard of excellence. God’s vision is not for adequacy, mediocrity or maintenance but it is nothing short of excellence in blessing others. How we live and bless others is how others see God in us, and God in action; we receive only God’s best in order to give our best in service to God and to others.

Prayer Points:
As you pray and invite God’s blessing in your life and in your church:
• Invite God to bring someone into your life that you can bless today
• Give the best of what you have in serving God and others today
• Prepare yourself for an outpouring of God’s blessing so that you will become an increasing blessing to others in the days to come

Instruments of Revival

Scripture: “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18

Prayer Points:
Pray for a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit that:
• Canada will be a nation that honours and serves the Lord,
whose leaders seek His guidance, wisdom and inspiration
• all who do not know the Lord will come to believe in and walk
with Him
• all Christians will be united as instruments of revival across the nation

Canadian 40 day Prayer Ramp

In Canada we have a 40 day prayer ramp happening and I thought perhaps those that read this blog would enjoy participating even if you don't live in Canada, after all intercessory prayer is something that we are exhorted to do and the benefits will be in our blessings also.

Dear Prayer Partners,

Today is the first day of the 40 Day Prayer Ramp. Please join believers across Canada in prayer using the following devotional suggestions. Each day has a few verses of Scripture and a few suggested points to pray about.

You can download a PDF of the devotional materials for the entire 40 days (April 23 to June 1) at
http://files.efc-canada.net/min/ni/NI-PrayerRamp2008.pdf.(www.40dayprayerramp.com).

Or else just watch you e-mail inbox, because we will also be sending you a message each day consisting of that day’s devotional material.(I will be posting my daily messages here in the blog ;-})

Here is your Day 1 - April 23rd Devotional

Day 1 - April 23

Being good servants of the gospel

Scripture:
Eph 3:7-8 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

Thought: As followers of Christ we are here as servants of the gospel. How do we do that? Paul tells us: to preach (in word and deed) … the unsearchable riches of Christ. May we be both humbled and excited about being given such a wonderful task!

Prayer points:
Effective: That all congregations become very effective servants of the gospel.
Powerful: That we feel the power of God as we serve the gospel to others
Humble: That, in true humility we serve others for the cause of Christ.
Available: That we be ready and open to serve others throughout our day as servants of this precious gospel.

40 Day Prayer Devotional

Day 2 - April 24

Authentic Witnesses

Scripture:
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.” Psalm 23: 2,3

What has this passage got to do with evangelism and outreach? Simply put, you cannot give out what you do not possess.

Prayer Points:
• Nothing replaces spending quality time with Jesus. Pray that disciples everywhere would discipline themselves to pursuing the presence of the Lord and to set that time aside as consecrated.

• Pray for willing, honest and yielded hearts that allow the Lord to lead us to the spiritual places of peace, refreshing, and restoration.

• Pray that the evidence and overflow of personal restoration would spill over as a witness to the goodness, joy and saving power of Jesus to everyone that we encounter.

Momof6 Getting MRI

Please pray for Momof6 who is getting an MRI next week, both for her as she gets the MRI and about the results.

The process of having the MRI done will be difficult for Mom because she is severely claustrophobic and she needs to have a closed MRI.

The doctor is telling Mom that she has sciatica and he expects to find she has bulging disks in her back along with arthritis.

Thanks!

God's Plans for Us

A lot of us have memorized Jeremiah 29:11 about God having good plans for us. I came across and article by Joshua Harris about this verse in the context of the chapter it appears in. Here is part of Jeremiah 29:

This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." [...] This is what the LORD says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place."
- Jeremiah 29:4-7, 10
The Israelites were in exile and they were baffled about why this has happened. Then Jeremiah brought word of God's plan: they would be in this strange land for 70 years and they should make lives for themselves there instead of putting all on hold until they return.

We, too, find ourselves in a strange land of sorts -- dealing with things we didn't expect to deal with at our age (or ever) and most of us expect, barring a miracle, that we will be dealing with these things for the rest of our lives, needing to adjust to a "new normal". But we, like they, have a promise from God:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
- Jeremiah 29:11
Our lives mostly don't seem good now -- we don't like to think about how God's plan might involve discipline! From the article by Joshua Harris:
When we think of God doing us good, we don't often think of trial and difficulty. And yet what we learn from Jeremiah 29:1-14 is that God uses discipline for our good. Sometimes this discipline is God's loving response to sin that He wants us to turn from. Other times His discipline is like a coach who pushes an athlete to work harder so that he or she can perform at a higher level. In either case, God's discipline is redemptive—it is for our good.
God does have a purpose in His plans; Jeremiah 29 continues:
"Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."
- Jeremiah 29:12-14
Many of us have found that in our illnesses, we do seek God with an urgency or sense of desperation and deep need that we did not have before we were ill. And we do find Him. We have not yet been "brought back from captivity", but we have His promise; that this, too, will pass.
